Apple Strudel
A crisp, flaky strudel filled with tender cinnamon apples, raisins, and buttery toasted breadcrumbs.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Combine the flour, water, vegetable oil, and ⅜ tsp (2 gr) of the salt in a mixing bowl. Knead until the dough is smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
-
Step 2
Shape the dough into a ball, cover it in the bowl, and let it rest at room temperature.
-
Step 3
Melt 2 ½ tbsp (30 gr) of the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and stir until golden, then remove from the heat and cool.
-
Step 4
Combine the apples, sugar, raisins, cinnamon, lemon juice, and remaining ⅛ tsp (1 gr) of salt in the mixing bowl.
-
Step 5
Heat the oven to 190°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Step 6
Place the dough on a lightly floured kitchen towel and roll it into a large rectangle. Gently stretch it with the backs of your hands until very thin, then brush it with 3 ¼ tbsp (40 gr) of the melted butter.
-
Step 7
Spread the toasted breadcrumbs over the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Distribute the apple filling over the near two-thirds, fold in the side edges, and use the towel to roll the strudel away from you.
-
Step 8
Transfer the strudel to the prepared baking sheet with the seam underneath. Tuck in the ends and brush the exterior with the remaining 2 ½ tbsp (30 gr) of melted butter.
-
Step 9
Bake at 190°C until the pastry is crisp and deep golden and the apple filling is tender.
-
Step 10
Let the strudel cool on the baking sheet before slicing.
-
Step 11
Dust the strudel with powdered sugar and serve warm or at room temperature.
