Teriyaki Chicken with Broccoli
Tender pieces of chicken and steamed broccoli coated in a glossy, savory-sweet teriyaki sauce with ginger, garlic, and sesame.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Whisk the soy sauce, ½ cup (120 ml) water, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil together until the sugar begins to dissolve. Set the teriyaki sauce aside.
-
Step 2
Whisk the cornstarch with 2 tbsp (30 ml) water in a separate bowl to make a smooth slurry.
-
Step 3
Place the broccoli and the remaining 2 tbsp (30 ml) water in the skillet. Cover and cook over medium heat until bright green and crisp-tender.
-
Step 4
Transfer the broccoli to a plate, drain any remaining water, and wipe the skillet dry.
-
Step 5
Heat the neutral oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken in an even layer and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on most sides.
-
Step 6
Add the garlic and ginger to the chicken and stir over medium heat until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
-
Step 7
Pour in the prepared teriyaki sauce. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 74°C.
-
Step 8
Whisk the slurry again, stir it into the simmering sauce, and cook until the sauce is glossy and thick enough to coat the chicken.
-
Step 9
Return the broccoli to the skillet and toss gently until evenly coated and hot.
-
Step 10
Remove from the heat and finish with the green onion and sesame seeds.
