Italian Beef Meatballs
Tender beef meatballs seasoned with Parmesan, garlic, parsley, and breadcrumbs, browned and gently finished in a tomato and basil sauce.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Combine the breadcrumbs and milk in the mixing bowl. Let them stand until the milk is absorbed and the crumbs soften.
-
Step 2
Add the ground beef, egg, Parmesan, parsley, 2 clove (6 gr) garlic, ¾ tsp (5 gr) salt, and ½ tsp (1 gr) black pepper. Mix just until evenly combined.
-
Step 3
Shape the mixture into 16 evenly sized meatballs and place them on a clean plate.
-
Step 4
Heat the olive oil in the large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on several sides, then transfer them to the plate; they need not be cooked through yet.
-
Step 5
Add the onion to the same skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring, until softened.
-
Step 6
Add the remaining 2 clove (6 gr) garlic and stir until fragrant.
-
Step 7
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, remaining ½ tsp (3 gr) salt, and remaining ½ tsp (1 gr) black pepper. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
-
Step 8
Return the meatballs and any collected juices to the skillet. Cover and simmer over low heat until the meatballs reach 71°C at the center.
-
Step 9
Remove the skillet from the heat, stir the basil into the sauce, and serve the meatballs hot.
