Beef Meatballs with Marinara Sauce
Tender pan-browned beef meatballs gently simmered in a classic tomato, garlic, and herb marinara sauce.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Combine the breadcrumb and whole milk in a mixing bowl. Let the mixture stand until the crumbs absorb the milk.
-
Step 2
Add the beef, egg, Parmesan cheese, parsley, ⅝ tsp (4 gr) salt, and ½ tsp (1 gr) black pepper. Mix gently just until evenly combined.
-
Step 3
Shape the mixture into 16 evenly sized meatballs and arrange them on a plate.
-
Step 4
Heat 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs in batches, turning to color several sides, then transfer them to the plate.
-
Step 5
Add the remaining 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil and the onion to the skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until softened.
-
Step 6
Add the garlic, tomato paste, oregano, and remaining ½ tsp (1 gr) black pepper. Stir over medium heat until the tomato paste darkens slightly and the garlic is fragrant.
-
Step 7
Stir in the crushed tomato and remaining ⅞ tsp (5 gr) salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low heat and cook uncovered.
-
Step 8
Return the meatballs and any collected juices to the sauce. Cover and simmer over low heat until the centers of the meatballs reach 71°C.
-
Step 9
Remove the skillet from the heat, stir in the basil, and serve the meatballs with the marinara sauce.
