Turkish Baked Meatballs in Tomato
Tender Turkish-style beef meatballs seasoned with cumin, paprika, parsley, and garlic, then baked in a savory tomato sauce.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 220°C.
-
Step 2
Combine the ground beef with half the onion and garlic, the breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, cumin, half the paprika, ¾ tsp (5 gr) salt, and half the black pepper. Mix just until evenly combined.
-
Step 3
Shape the mixture into 16 evenly sized meatballs and arrange them in a single layer in the baking dish.
-
Step 4
Bake the meatballs at 220°C until lightly browned, about 12 minutes.
-
Step 5
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add the remaining onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
-
Step 6
Add the remaining garlic and the tomato paste. Cook over medium heat, stirring, for 1 minute.
-
Step 7
Stir in the crushed tomato, water, remaining paprika, remaining salt, and remaining black pepper. Simmer over low heat until slightly thickened, about 8 minutes.
-
Step 8
Reduce the oven temperature to 190°C. Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the browned meatballs.
-
Step 9
Bake at 190°C until the sauce is bubbling and the centers of the meatballs reach 71°C, about 20 minutes.
-
Step 10
Rest the meatballs in the sauce for 5 minutes before serving.
