Greek Baked Ziti with Feta
A Greek-inspired baked pasta with ziti, cinnamon-and-oregano beef tomato sauce, tangy feta and yogurt, and a golden mozzarella topping.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Heat the oven to 190°C. Coat the baking dish with 2 tsp (10 ml) olive oil.
-
Step 2
Heat the remaining 1 ¼ tbsp (20 ml) olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion until softened, then add the beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
-
Step 3
Stir in the garlic and tomato paste and cook over medium heat for 1 minute. Add the red wine and simmer until reduced slightly.
-
Step 4
Add the tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, half the salt, and the black pepper. Simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
-
Step 5
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the remaining salt. Cook the ziti for 2 minutes less than the package directs, then drain.
-
Step 6
Mix the Greek yogurt, eggs, and feta in a mixing bowl until evenly combined.
-
Step 7
Combine the drained ziti with the beef sauce, then fold in the feta mixture. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and cover evenly with mozzarella.
-
Step 8
Bake at 190°C until bubbling and browned on top, with the center reaching 74°C. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
