Şekerpare
Tender Turkish semolina pastries topped with hazelnuts, baked until golden, and soaked in fragrant lemon syrup.
Instructions
-
Step 1
Combine the granulated sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
-
Step 2
Add the lemon juice and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool completely.
-
Step 3
Heat the oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking dish.
-
Step 4
Whisk the softened butter, powdered sugar, and vegetable oil in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy.
-
Step 5
Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract until evenly combined.
-
Step 6
Add the semolina, flour, and baking powder. Fold just until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
-
Step 7
Divide the dough into 20 equal portions and roll each into a smooth oval or ball. Arrange them in the baking dish and press one hazelnut into the center of each.
-
Step 8
Bake at 180°C until risen and deeply golden, 25–30 minutes.
-
Step 9
Remove the pastries from the oven and slowly pour the cooled syrup evenly over them while they are still hot.
-
Step 10
Leave the şekerpare at room temperature until the syrup is absorbed, at least 2 hours, then serve.
